2016 St. Petersburg B20 Forum a success at SPIEF

The B20 2016 Host Committee and the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs jointly held the 2016 St. Petersburg B20 Forum in the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on June 16.

The meeting brought together some 200 officials, business people and experts. 

B20 China Sherpa Yu Ping introduced the 2016 B20’s vision, latest developments and achievements, as well as progress of the major events. 

Chen Yuan, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Alexey Ulyukaev, Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, and Alexander Shokhin, President of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, delivered keynote speeches about the world economy and their expectations of this year’s G20 and B20.

B20 taskforce chairs, co-chairs and their representatives – including Miao Jianmin, President of China Life Insurance (Group) Company, Kirill Dmitriev, representative of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, Jack Ma, Executive Chairman of Alibaba Group, and Liang Xinjun, Chief Executive Officer of Fosun Group – introduced their respective major policy recommendations on behalf of Financing Growth Taskforce, Trade and Investment Taskforce, Infrastructure Taskforce, SME Development Taskforce and Employment Taskforce.  

They also exchanged views with Andrey Kostin, President and Chairman of VTB Bank, the Russian Vice Minister of Transport, the Russian Vice Minister of Economic Development, representatives of the World Federation of Trade Unions, Alexander Braverman, head of Russia's Federal Corporation for Development of SMEs, and Kevin Rudd, Former Prime Minister of Australia and President of the Asia Society Policy Institute at the panel discussion of the Forum. 

The representatives agreed that this year’s B20 policy paper, which concentrates on prominent and pressing issues in the world economy, is well oriented and practicable, and contains innovative ideas as well as insights into the future. They hoped the B20 Host Committee will increase publicity about the policy paper, enhance interaction with the G20 for trying to convince the G20 into adopting more of the business community’s policy recommendations. 

In addition, Matthias Schepp, Chairman of the Russian-German Chamber of Commerce and a representative of the 2017 B20 Germany, outlined the priorities of the upcoming B20 Germany, while Kevin Rudd, Former Prime Minister of Australia and President of Asia Society Policy Institute, expounded on the agenda for future cooperation between the G20 and the B20.
